eSmart: Helping Schools Promote Cyber Safety
In this rapidly changing digital world, eSafety helps schools navigate and promote cyber safety within their community using an evidence-based framework. eSafety uses eSmart practices as a guide to educate students to be smart, safe and responsible online.
BPPS is an official eSmart School
In 2016, Boroondara Park Primary School became an official eSmart school. The eSmart framework is funded by the Victorian Government and is an evidence-based initiative of The Alannah and Madeline Foundation. This framework employs a cultural change approach to enhance cyber safety and mitigate cyberbullying, guiding our policies, practices, and whole-school processes to foster a cyber-safe environment and support the safe, responsible, and smart use of technology.
At Boroondara Park Primary School, we aim to ensure that our whole school community is equipped to learn how to benefit from online technology while being savvy and prepared for its pitfalls.
eSmart is a rich component of our wellbeing approach at Boroondara Park. It connects cyber safety with overall wellbeing, focusing on creating cultures of respect and responsibility, and providing practical knowledge to ensure everyone’s safety.
The eSafety Commissioner website is a valuable resource for our school community. It is a Government resource providing training, programs, initiatives and resources in online safety education. It is an incredibly rich resource that provides a thorough scope for addressing cybersafety.
Important Resources for Parents and Carers
Keeping Your Child Safe Online Starts Here: The eSafety Commissioner (eSafety) is the Australian Government’s independent online safety regulator, and the first of its kind in the world. eSafety’s purpose is to help safeguard Australians at risk of online harms and to promote safer, more positive online experiences. Using data gathered since its inception in 2015, and acting under the Online Safety Act (2021), with amendments made in 2024 covering social media age restrictions, eSafety provides advice and resources for parents and carers, preventing online risks, reducing the impacts of harms, and building safer digital spaces.
