Secondary School Visits
We are able to offer a visit to a secondary school as part of the transition program. Our students walk to a local secondary school and participate in Periods 1 and 2 in Term 2 or 3 each year.
Many Secondary schools send teachers to visit students at their primary school before they start. They will, at times, bring past students to talk about secondary school and enable our students to ask questions.
Teacher Collaboration
We collaborate with many secondary schools to support our students through the transition period.
Teachers will meet and discuss students with specific learning and wellbeing needs, offering information that will support a smooth transition.
Teaching and Learning Strategies
Steps are also taken to prepare children for the different teaching methods of secondary school.
We employ a range of team teaching strategies to ensure that students develop skills in connecting and collaborating with various teachers.
Student Wellbeing Program
All of this is underpinned by our strong commitment to wellbeing. The learning program at Boroondara Park Primary School promotes the development of a student’s ability to express and overcome fears, build self-confidence, and develop personal leadership skills.
Formal Orientation
A formal orientation day takes place in December each year at all government secondary schools; it is being held on December 8, 2026.
This is an opportunity for students to visit their new schools, participate in learning activities, get to know other students attending their school and start to navigate around the new learning environment.
Moving from a Government Primary School to a Government Secondary School
If your child is in Grade 6 in 2026 and attends a Victorian government primary school, you will need to:

Use the Find my School website to locate your local secondary school or preferred government school, and read about School Zones and Enrolling in School.
Complete the application form to enrol in a Government Secondary School and return it to your child’s primary school
by Friday, 8 May 2026.
Important Information
Year 7 placement is decided by secondary schools using the Department of Education’s Placement Policy. However, all communication about your child’s placement must be with the Year 6 Coordinator or Transition Coordinator at your child’s primary school until the placement is confirmed.
You will receive notification of your child’s Year 7 placement offer on Wednesday 24th June, 2026. All government secondary schools will host a Year 7 Orientation Day (for Year 6 students) on Tuesday, 8 December 2026.

Moving from a Non-government Primary School or Home Schooling to a Government Secondary School
If your child is in Grade 6 in 2026 and attends a non-government primary school or is home-schooled, you will need to:

From Wednesday, 22 April 2026, schools will provide the Year 6-7 Placement Information Packs, which include the Year 7 Application Form , or you can access it here.
Complete the application form to enrol in a Government Secondary School and return it to your preferred secondary school
by Friday, 8 May 2026.
