Volunteering Your Time
Volunteering at Boroondara Park Primary School contributes to our vibrant and diverse school community.
We Encourage You to Get Involved
There are many ways you can be involved in the life of the school, and we encourage all of our families to take an active part in the Boroondara Park Primary School community.
We recognise the place that parents and carers have in their children’s learning. We highly value the contributions that our parent community makes to enhance the learning experience of our students.
The school’s volunteer program opens a wide range of opportunities for parents, carers, and volunteers to be involved in student learning.
If you would like to register to be a volunteer, please complete the annual online registration. The registration outlines the required guidelines to assist you, the teacher and your child. Whilst schools are relatively dynamic and changeable environments, they operate best when programs are well-planned and organised.
These guidelines aim to make your experience as a volunteer a worthwhile, productive and enjoyable time for all by introducing consistent and predictable procedures for everyone.
We also ask that you familiarise yourself with the required school policies outlined in each section of the form.
All volunteers are required to complete the Induction, which provides them with the knowledge and support they need to understand confidentiality and child safety.
Volunteer Opportunities
There are numerous ways to get involved:
- Classroom Assistance: Support teachers with reading groups, literacy and numeracy activities, and organising take-home materials.
- Excursions and Camps: Accompany students on educational outings and overnight camps, providing supervision and support.
- Specialist Programs: Assist in areas such as Art, Physical Education, and other specialist subjects.
- School Events: Help organise and run events such as morning teas, BBQs, fetes, and sports days.
- School Council and Committees: Participate in decision-making processes that shape the direction of our school.
Volunteer Guidelines and Expectations
To ensure a safe and respectful environment for all, volunteers are expected to:
- Maintain Confidentiality: Respect the privacy of students and staff by not discussing any personal or sensitive information outside the school setting.
- Uphold Professional Standards: Conduct themselves in a manner that reflects the school’s values of respect, care, responsibility, and inclusion.
- Follow School Policies: Adhere to all school policies and procedures, especially those related to child safety and wellbeing.
Becoming a Volunteer
To volunteer at BPPS, please follow these steps:
- Initial Discussion: Speak with the Assistant Principal, Principal, or your child’s classroom teacher about your interest in volunteering.
- Complete BPPS’s Volunteers Induction and Registration 2026.
- Working with Children Check (WWCC): Complete an online application for a WWCC and present it to the school office. If you are unable to verify your identity documents through Services Victoria, you can apply in person, which involves taking documents to a post office.
- Read Induction Materials: Familiarise yourself with the following documents:
- Sign and Acknowledgment: Sign and date the Child Safety Induction section on page 3 and the Confidentiality Required of a Volunteer section on page 5 of the BPPS Volunteer Registration and Induction form, confirming that you have read and understood the volunteer guidelines and child safety policies.
If the school needs volunteers for specific events or activities, a message is sent to all families via Compass, and an invitation to volunteer is included in the fortnightly newsletter. Emails and Class Rep WhatsApp messages may also be used for recruiting volunteers.
We value your feedback on ways to continue improving and strengthening our child safety approach, and encourage you to contact the school with any comments or questions.
