Guiding the Strategic Direction of BPPS
The School Council at Boroondara Park Primary School plays a pivotal role in setting the school’s strategic direction.
Composed of parent representatives, staff, and community members, the council collaborates to ensure the school’s continuous improvement and alignment with education policy and goals.
Responsibilities of the School Council
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and reviewing the school’s Strategic Plan and education policies.
- Overseeing the school’s financial management and budget.
- Establishing and maintaining codes of conduct.
- Managing and enhancing school buildings and grounds.
Council Composition and Elections
The school council consists of:
- Parent representatives,
- Department of Education and Training (DET) representatives,
- The Principal (Executive Officer), and,
- Co-opted community members.
Members serve two-year terms, with elections held during the March Annual General Meeting.
The BPPS School Council convenes on the third Wednesday of each month, fostering open discussions and decision-making processes that benefit the entire school community.

I was born in Malaysia and my family migrated to Australia in 1984 when I was Alyssa’s age, so I personally understand the migrant experience.
My background is in foreign exchange trading, stockbroking and corporate advisory. In my spare time, I’m a passionate fly fisherman and fly tier and an avid reader.

Supporting Sub-Committees
To effectively manage its diverse responsibilities, the council is supported by several committees:
- Education Policy Sub-Committee: Focuses on policy development and the cyclical review of existing policies, including the Strategic Plan.
- Building and Grounds Sub-Committee: Coordinates maintenance programs and upgrades to physical infrastructure, ensuring the optimal use of facilities such as the stadium and hall.
- Community Engagement Sub-Committee: Enhances community involvement through events, supports new families, and collaborates with class representatives.
- Finance Sub-Committee: Manages and reports the financial activities of the school, prepares the annual budget, and oversees the responsible allocation of resources.
- Multicultural Working Group: Promotes cultural diversity within the school, fostering connections between the school and its diverse community, which comprises families from various cultures and ethnicities.
Parent Payments
Annually, the school seeks parent contributions in line with the Department of Education’s Parent Payment Policy. These contributions support the delivery of quality educational programs and resources.
