Performing Arts

Boroondara Park has a thriving and exciting Performing Arts program, which gives our students ample opportunities to become involved in the many dance, drama and musical activities that we offer.

All students from Foundation to Grade 6 have a 50-minute session of Performing Arts each week, providing a well-rounded curriculum exploring dance, drama and music.  We have two well-equipped Performing Arts rooms; Our music specific classroom has an interactive whiteboard, as well as an array of tuned and untuned percussion instruments which are utilised by our students and the other, our dance and drama classroom, is an open space where the students can participate in drama and movement activities.

Boroondara Park prides itself on a commitment to training students in theatre etiquette as well as providing them with an opportunity to work on the stage.  Our Junior School (Foundation–Grade 2) presents a Junior School Concert each year in May, and our Senior School (Grade 3-6) stages a Major School Production every second year in July/August. Students who have an interest in the technical aspects of theatre are also able to work backstage or in the bio box to foster their interest.

In Term 3-4 in a non-production year, we also offer 'Dance and Drama Club' which runs Wednesday lunchtimes offering students extra workshops to hone their improvisation and dance skills.

We also have a strong instrumental program providing students with the opportunity to learn an instrument outside of their scheduled Performing Arts lesson each week.  Currently Boroondara Park offers violin, piano, guitar, drums, flute, saxophone, clarinet and voice lessons.  The intake for instrumental music is usually in November each year.  As there is great demand for some instruments please see the age requirements for each instrument located on our Performing Arts Notice Board in the foyer of our Stadium.

For those students keen to pursue their love of music outside of the classroom we also offer a number of ensembles:

  • Junior School Choir: Grades 1-3
  • Senior School Choir: Grades 4-6
  • The Girls’ Vocal Group: An auditioned group for girls in Grades 5-6
  • The Boys’ Vocal Group: An auditioned group for boys in Grades 5-6   (IT WILL BE AUDITIONED AS OF 2017)
  • The Boroondara Park Orchestra: Grades 3-6
  • The Recorder Ensemble: An auditioned group for students in Grades 4-6
  • This year several of our students took part in the Maroondah All Inclusive Concert. Here is a link to the video.
